Even at the age of 41, LeBron James still has basketball fans around the world anxious to find out where he's heading next.
Despite taking a step back at times during the 2025-26 season, James flexed his muscles during the postseason. He powered the Los Angeles Lakers to the second round, averaging 23.2 points, 7.3 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game. With that being said, there are a handful of teams that have interest in his services.
According to longtime NBA reporter Nick Friedell, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors are considered the front-runners for James.
“It’s about a 50/50 right now,” Friedell said, via the New York Post. “It’s Golden State and Cleveland. I just don’t see another team that makes that much sense.
Friedell continued, "LeBron is looking for basketball happiness at the end. There’s no better place to do that than here, flatly. He’s got a chemistry with Steph. He knows Draymond for all these years. He knows what Steve Kerr’s all about. They lived it and won a gold medal together in Paris at the Olympics. The Warriors, on top of all that, and I think this has gotten lost in the shuffle. They let their players be who they are. Look at Jimmy Butler."
While it's possible James is down to two suitors, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints believes the league's all-time leading scorer will wait until Summer League begins to announce his plans.
"He is completely chilling," Siegel said in regards to James' timeline . "He’s letting Rich Paul handle this situation… Teams that are directly involved in this don’t think it’s gonna happen until Summer League or near the start of it."
The Summer League in Las Vegas doesn't officially begin until July 9, so we might be in store for another week of free agency rumors.
