The biggest situation that the Golden State Warriors are waiting to have unfold in free agency is what happens to Jonathan Kuminga. The restricted free agent is likely to be gone from the Bay Area, but his next suitor has yet to emerge.
However, just because nothing has been officially finalized or set into motion, that does not mean there is absolutely no traction happening behind the scenes. One NBA insider offered a four-team list of the franchises circling around Kuminga.
Jake Fischer dropped another of NBA intel, discussing the murmurings happening around the league. Kuminga was a large focal point of that report.
Fischer wrote, "There are four primary teams, sources say, that have to be tracked thanks to varying levels of past and current sign-and-trade interest in Kuminga."
The Miami Heat are the team that the NBA insider wasted no time jumping into. There is a 'clear need' on the wing, according to Fischer, and Kuminga should be one of the main options to address that.
Fischer added, "Chicago, New Orleans and Sacramento are three more teams routinely suggested as possible landing spots for Kuminga, but pinpointing significant traction with any of them in these early stages of free agency has been difficult."
The Chicago Bulls would be a prime candidate for a sign-and-trade featuring the Warriors if it were not for one key factor. The Warriors are reportedly pivoting away from Nikola Vucevic, according to the insider.
The New Orleans Pelicans come across as an unlikely suitor, despite being listed. Cap constraints were highlighted as a primary holdback in a union between the parties involved.
Fischer wrote, "I've confirmed that the Pelicans hold an interest in Kuminga, but various team salary cap experts have pointed out to me that New Orleans has no easy route to take Kuminga on its books at his desired contract range."
The Sacramento Kings would involve Malik Monk in any sign-and-trade with the Warriors. However, Fischer pointed out 'nothing substantial has materialized' just yet.
The waiting game surrounding Kuminga's free agency appears to be slated to continue for a while longer. Warriors fans will need to pull up a chair.
