Tracy Morgan endorses Mark Jackson as next head coach of Knicks
Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

Longtime New York Knicks fan Tracy Morgan took to social media this week to promote Mark Jackson as the perpetually dysfunctional NBA franchise’s next head coach.

With rumors swirling that embattled coach David Fizdale could be on his way out, the “Saturday Night Live” alum and “30 Rock” funnyman shared his thoughts on Jackson in a tweet posted Tuesday night.

Morgan has taken to Twitter before to rep for his favorite NBA team. In May, the comedian pitched the Knicks as a destination for Kevin Durant in free agency, though we all know now that such a pipe dream was never going to come to fruition.

Morgan’s endorsement of Jackson comes on the heels of a damning report from ESPN earlier this week that indicated the Knicks front office is presently laying the “internal groundwork” for Fizdale’s eventual dismissal.

The reporting was preceded by Knicks president Steve Mills holding an impromptu press conference following Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, during which he said team brass was “unhappy” with the 2-8 start, one that dropped to 2-9 following Tuesday’s 120-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Meanwhile, amid all the conjecture about his being on the hot seat, Fizdale downplayed the severity of the situation earlier this week.

While Fizdale’s future with the Knicks is believed to be grim, team management reportedly stands on much firmer ground as it pertains to job security.

All that said, Jackson presumably could be in the mix should the Knicks fire Fizdale. Jackson, who previously served as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors for three seasons — not to mention a lengthy stint with the Knicks during his playing career — interviewed for the job before the team hired Fizdale in 2018.
