Trade Idea Sees Warriors Cut Ties With Draymond Green in Deal With Lakers

It's that time of the year where if a team is eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, they are flying in all sorts of trade rumors and mock deals. The Golden State Warriors will be no exception to this.

After being bounced 4-1 in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, the offseason has officially begun for the Warriors. There are numerous questions that will need to be answered.

The future of Draymond Green in Golden State has not typically surfaced among those topics. However, one NBA writer thought it should.

Mock trade sends Green to Lakers

Colin Keane of The Sporting News suggested a deal involving getting rid of another member from the Golden Dynasty. With Klay Thompson gone, this time it is Green's turn.

Keane wrote, "The Warriors ... were ousted in the Conference Semifinals by the Minnesota Timberwolves, exposing their need for roster depth and youth."

With that in mind, the NBA writer pitched the following trade to get the Warriors a couple of pieces from the Los Angeles Lakers for the services of Green.

Lakers receive: Draymond Green.

Warriors receive: Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura, 2031 first-round pick.

Keane explained the Lakers' motivation for doing this deal was focused around maximizing their current title window with Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Green's defense and leadership would allow for that.

For the Warriors, the writer noted, "[Golden State] would face an emotional challenge in parting with Green, a cornerstone of their dynasty. Yet, at a certain point, the organization needs to plan for the future."

Moving Green would certainly signal a forward-thinking approach by the Warriors. The question is whether to make that decision just now.

Golden State was eliminated with their best player, Stephen Curry, missing the majority of their series against Minnesota. There is certainly enough reason to hold off on breaking up the band, and run it back one more time with their new trio.
