Trae Young drops 41 and 11 as Hawks wipe Raptors

Trae Young was cold as ever Saturday night.

The Hawks' star dropped 41 points and 11 assists to power Atlanta to a 127-100 win over Toronto. It was his second double-double in as many games since the All-Star Break.

Young was cooking early, pouring in a quick 12 points in the first quarter, but could only do so much as the Raptors jumped out to scorching start themselves. Toronto led 37-32 at the end of the period.

He sat to begin the second quarter, but checked in at around the eight-minute mark and immediately got to work. Normally a three-point shooter, he got most of his work done in the paint early, as he went into halftime with zero shots made from behind the arc.

Young one-upped himself in the second, scoring 13 points to finish with 25 at the half. The script was flipped in terms of the game as well, as the Hawks won the second quarter 34-21 and entered halftime leading 66-58.

This marks Young's 22nd career game with 40 or more points, and, at 23, he's not far behind Michael Jordan and LeBron James in an interesting category.

It was more of the same in the third. Young added 12 more points to his ledger — including his first and only three-pointer in the game — helping the Hawks extend their lead to 104-74 and largely put the game out of reach. He checked in briefly in the fourth, scoring four more points to eclipse the 40-point mark.

His 41 points led all scorers, and was the second most in the league Saturday behind Ja Morant's 46. Onyeka Okongwu scored 17, and DeAndre Hunter, Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic all added 14.

Fred Van Vleet led the Raptors with 24. Precious Achiuwa scored 21 and hauled in nine rebounds and Pascal Siakam logged 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
