Trae Young perfectly explains how impossible it was to defend Luka Doncic during 73-point game

Say what you will about Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, but you have to appreciate his honesty. The Hawks were on the wrong end of one of the most stellar offensive performances ever, even topping the two 60-plus showings earlier in the week from Karl-Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic poured in 73 points in a 148-143 victory on Friday night, leaving literally everyone from fans, analysts and even fellow players stunned.

Young, who had a big night of his own with 30 points and 11 assists, offered a response about defending Doncic that was easy to resonate with, as Kevin Chouinard of the team's official website highlighted.

"He was hot. He was going. S---, we were trying everything. We were trying to trap him. We started off with Jalen on him, and then DJ was switched on him a little bit then too, and then we just tried a lot of things, different things," Young said.

"And then also Josh Green hit some big threes, Dante hit a big three late in the game. Sometimes you just have to pick your poison."

Young detailed a number of the things the Hawks attempted to find a solution to their Doncic problem, but sometimes you just have to toss your hands in the air and realize there's no correct answer. And on Friday, the Hawks threw it all at Doncic, but nothing was slowing him down. The 24-year-old also tacked on 10 rebounds and seven assists while shooting a stellar 25-of-33 from the field.
