Trae Young has been a complete game changer for the Atlanta Hawks.
Since being traded on draft day to the Hawks, Young has quickly become the face of their franchise.
Young is a four-time All-Star and he helped lead the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021.
Young has actually become underrated for how good he has been in his career and the numbers he continues to put up.
He has had his fair share of epic performances over the years, most notably against his biggest rival the New York Knicks.
Young and the Knicks have engaged in a heated rivalry since the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
The Hawks defeated the Knicks in five games in the first round. Since then, every time Young visits Madison Square Garden, it is a spectacle.
Young talked about his ongoing rivalry with the Knicks on the Club 520 Podcast.
“I guess it started from the playoff series, and in the first quarter, with 10 minutes to go, the whole crowd just started chanting, ‘F— you.
“It’s cool. I didn’t grow up thinking I was going to ever be a villain in New York, but it is what it is. You just embrace it, he said.
“When I walk around the city, I get a lot of love. So, it’s not like I feel scared to go around the city, even if I pulled up to Dyckman.
“There are some people out there who show love. They say all these things on camera, but when they see me in person, it’s a different way for the most part. I don’t really have too hard feelings towards their fans.”
Young has averaged 25.6 points, 9.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 24 regular season games against the Knicks in his career.
Surprisingly, he is just 7-17 against the Knicks in those games, but he does have the last laugh when it counts in the playoffs, owning a 4-1 postseason record against New York.
In that playoff series win, Young torched the Knicks, averaging 29.2 points and 9.8 assists on 44.1 percent shooting from the field in five games.
If Atlanta and New York do end up meeting again in the playoffs this season, it will be must-see television, with Young keeping his villain persona against the Knicks.
