Trae Young speaks at protest in Oklahoma

All across the country, communities are rising up to protest the death of George Floyd and yesterday, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young spoke at a rally in Norman, Okla. While addressing the crowd in his hometown, Young addressed the turmoil America is experiencing currently, as well as the importance of fighting for justice.

"This country is in a messed up place right now," Young said. "For me, I just think it's important that we all stick together and we stand up for what's right, and it's not just going to just take just me. It's not going to take just you. It's all of us coming together and doing this as a collective unit. I feel like justice will be served and changes will be made if we all come together."

On May 25, Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died while in Minneapolis police custody. His tragic death sparked nationwide outrage, as protesters have voiced their support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Several athletes have shown up at these protests, including Jaylen Brown, Malcolm Brogdon and Young.

"I pray every day that justice will be served for George and his family and not just him, there's hundreds and hundreds of other people—Breanna Taylor—everybody, it's not just them, this has got to change," Young said. "Thank you guys for letting me talk, and I just want to say no justice, no peace."

Earlier in the day, Young expressed his intention to attend the rally on Twitter and could be seen at the event holding a sign that read "Black Lives Matter" on one side and "God Didn't Give Us This Breath for You to Take It Away" on the other. Norman mayor Breea Clark also spoke at the rally.
