Two-Time NBA All-Star Announces Decision on Retirement

Injuries have perhaps been the biggest culprit behind untimely retirements in the NBA. More than a few players have been forced to call time on their respective careers earlier than initially anticipated due to their bodies' inability to recover from injuries they have sustained through the years.

To a certain extent, the same can be said of two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo, who has been plagued by a number of major injuries for the better part of his career. One could argue that the 6-foot-3 combo guard never really reached his true potential due to the injuries he suffered in his 10-year NBA career.

As it turns out, however, that career is not yet over -- at least according to Oladipo himself.

In the pilot episode of his "The Inner Court" podcast, the 32-year-old announced that he is not yet ready to call it quits.

"I'm not retiring," he declared. "It's just not what I'm doing right now... I got a ton left in the tank... I'm training, rehabbing every day."

The last time Oladipo saw NBA action was on Apr. 22, 2023, with the Miami Heat. The former All-NBA guard did not play in the league last season, nor has he found a team this year.

Oladipo recently signed with ESPN as a sports analyst, but it is clear that he remains intent on making an NBA comeback. Whether or not any team out there is willing to take a gamble on him, however, is an altogether different matter.

Apart from the Heat, Oladipo has had previous stints with the Indiana Pacers, the Orlando Magic, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets.

His best year came during the 2017-18 season with the Pacers when he was named the Most Improved Player of the Year and part of the All-Defensive First Team, the All-NBA Third Team, and an All-Star for a second consecutive campaign. That season, he averaged 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a league-best 2.4 steals, while also knocking down 2.1 triples per game on a 37.1% clip.
