One NBA writer has named Ty Jerome, Spencer Dinwiddie and Larry Nance Jr. the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ top three free agency targets.
The Cavaliers were the No. 1 seed Eastern Conference this past season. They swept the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round in five games.
Jerome played for the Cavaliers this past season, Dinwiddie played for the Dallas Mavericks and Nance Jr. played for the Atlanta Hawks.
“Despite being $13 million into the second apron already, the Cleveland Cavaliers need to invest in Ty Jerome,” Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report wrote. “The Cavs can pay their sixth man up to $14.3 million per season on a new deal (barely passing the non-taxpayer mid-level exception), whereas letting him walk would mean only being able to use the veteran minimum on his replacement.
“If the luxury tax penalties are deemed to be too great, Dinwiddie would be a cheaper option who averaged 11.0 points and 4.4 assists for the Dallas Mavericks on a minimum deal last season.
“A reunion with Nance as a third big behind Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley makes a lot of sense for both sides as well.”
Jerome averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists this past season while shooting 51.6% from the field, 43.9% from beyond the arc and 87.2% from the free-throw line.
Dinwiddie averaged 11.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 41.6% from the field, 33.4% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the free-throw line.
Finally, Nance Jr. averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 51.6% from the field, 44.7% from beyond the arc and 69.2% from the free-throw. He played for the Cavaliers before.
The Cavaliers are projected to have $219 million in salary for the 2025-26 season and be over the second apron.
According to NBA insiders Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps of ESPN, the Cavaliers hope Jerome will take a discount to return.
