Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton made NBA history in his team's 130-121 win over the New York Knicks on May 27 -- and said after the game that having his father back in the arena made the moment that much sweeter.
John Haliburton had not watched his son play in person since April 29, when he got into an on-court confrontation with Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo after the Pacers knocked them out of the playoffs. The Pacers front office had decided not to allow him to attend games over the weeks that followed.
John Haliburton apologized on social media afterward, saying he was sorry to Antetokounmpo and both the Pacers and Bucks organizations.
"This was not a good reflection on our sport or my son and I will not make that mistake again," he wrote.
John Haliburton was allowed back in the building for Tuesday's Game 4 against the Knicks, where his son became the first player in NBA history to record 30 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and no turnovers in a playoff game.
"I was just trying to be aggressive, try to respond," Haliburton told TNT's Allie LaForce on the court after the game. "I felt like I let the team down in Game 3, so it was important for me to just come out here and make big plays."
"It was important for me to come out here and make plays...It's a big win for us."

LaForce asked if his father's presence made it extra special.
"Hell yeah, I'm glad pops in the building, makes it that much more sweet," Haliburton said.
With the win, the Pacers took a 3-1 lead over the Knicks and advanced to within one more win of the NBA Finals.
