The box score was ugly. A 131-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on March 3, 2026. However, in the locker room, the conversation drifted elsewhere. It drifted to a former teammate. To chemistry. To what used to be there.
The Philadelphia 76ers are 4-7 since the early February shake-up. Injuries to Joel Embiid haven’t helped. The guard rotation is crowded with Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Quentin Grimes. Still, one name lingers: Jared McCain. Maxey even opened up about what it feels like to play in front of Philly fans.
What’s more, on March 3, speaking to reporters via SixersAdam, the 25-year-old kept it real about the February 4 trade that sent McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 first-rounder and three seconds.
“I ain’t going to lie and say I don’t miss Jared [McCain]. But I’m happy for him. I’m happy for him. I watch him in OKC and hope he does well every single night, except for when he plays us.”

The numbers pretty much back the emotion. McCain averaged 6.6 points on 38.5% shooting in Philly. In OKC – 12.5 points on 48.5%, 43.1% from deep. The defending champs are 8-3 since. Sometimes trades make sense on paper but still sting in the locker room.
In Philadelphia, history echoes loudly. Allen Iverson once owned the record books and the moment – that iconic step-over in the 2001 Finals still lives forever. He drained 885 threes in a Sixers jersey. It felt untouchable. Then came Maxey.
Maxey didn’t arrive as a sniper. At the University of Kentucky, he shot under 30% from deep. Drafted 21st by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020, he was doubted. Minutes were limited. Confidence wasn’t.
Fast forward to right now, Tyrese Maxey shattered Iverson’s franchise three-point mark in just 375 games. From overlooked prospect to record-breaker. Work ethic flipped the script. Now his name sits beside a legend’s.
