Tyrese Maxey has taken his game up a notch as the Philadelphia 76ers star is having the best individual season of his career.
The 2025-26 NBA regular-season MVP race has seen a new name to it, and it’s none other than Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey is currently averaging 32.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game for the 76ers while shooting 45.6% from the field and 41.3% from the three-point line.
But there’s another stat that truly highlights the talent of the 25-year-old.
In the modern era, earning foul calls has become an elite skill. For instance, the likes of Joel Embiid and James Harden have mastered the craft of getting to the free-throw line.
However, at times, NBA fans get frustrated with players heading to the charity stripe to score the majority of their points.
As a result, it could hurt their case to win the MVP. Keeping that in mind, Maxey is proving that he can score at will without relying too much on free throws.
| Player | Team | PPG (No FTs) |
|---|---|---|
| Tyrese Maxey | Philadelphia 76ers | 25.38 |
| Donovan Mitchell | Cleveland Cavaliers | 24.77 |
| Luka Doncic | Los Angeles Lakers | 24.73 |
| Giannis Antetokounmpo | Milwaukee Bucks | 24.69 |
| Lauri Markkanen | Utah Jazz | 24.57 |
Maxey is averaging 25.38 points per game without free throws, which is more than the likes of top MVP candidates – Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
While Maxey is en route to the best individual season of his career, the 76ers are still in the middle of figuring things out.
For example, Jared McCain is still struggling to get going this season. As a result, the 76ers suffered their sixth loss of the season as they were outplayed by the Toronto Raptors in their recent matchup.
In the 121-112 defeat, Maxey continued his phenomenal form by recording 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 9 assists in 36 minutes of playing time.
Unfortunately, Maxey’s efforts went in vain as Philly has now fallen to an 8-6 record ahead of their much-anticipated matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks.
