Unexpected Celtics Player Named in New Trade Report

Because the Boston Celtics plan to save money this offseason, players like Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday will reportedly be on the table. Due to their expensive contracts, getting them off Boston's payroll could save tens of millions.

However, the Celtics are so high above the NBA's second tax apron that it's hard to imagine that teams will be able give them significant cap relief from those two alone. That's why it's not hard to believe other Celtics could be on the table too.

HoopsHype's Michael Scotto revealed another player on their 2024 championship roster could hit the open market this season.

"Another trade candidate to keep an eye on in the eyes of NBA executives around the league is sharpshooter Sam Hauser, a career 42 percent shooter from beyond the arc and has been a consistent rotation player for Boston the past three seasons," Scotto wrote.

Hauser will start a four-year, $45 million contract this upcoming season. Scotto revealed another potential driving factor in a Hauser trade besides saving money: the belief that the Celtics have already drafted his replacement.

"When Boston drafted Baylor Scheierman 30th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, some NBA talent evaluators pointed to him as an eventual possible replacement for Hauser after he shot 39 percent beyond the arc in five collegiate seasons," Scotto wrote.

Hauser has been impressive since starting his NBA career with Boston in 2021. Coming into the league as an undrafted free agent on a two-way contract, Hauser has worked his way into becoming a rotation player who played a critical role in the Celtics' title last year
