Unheralded Indiana Pacers Asset Shares Agonizing Admission About Game 1 Loss to Boston Celtics
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana Pacers were so close to stealing a win in Game 1 against the Boston Celtics on the road. That would have been huge. A win at TD Garden in the series opener last Tuesday would have rocked the Celtics and given the Pacers the momentum right out of the gate. However, some miscues late in regulation and a meltdown in overtime helped turn the table on the Pacers and give the Celtics the 133-128 win.

Indiana Pacers Guard TJ McConnell Opens Up About Pain of Losing Game 1 to the Celtics

Pacers backup point guard TJ McConnell opened up about the ugly feeling brought to his team by such a deflating loss.

“Really, really tough pill to swallow,” Pacers guard T.J. McConnell told The Athletic. “Knowing how close we were to getting that game (sighs), it’s difficult, but we have to move on and come with the same intensity and mindset in Game 2.”

The Pacers don’t know for certain if they will be able to come close to beating the Celtics in this series. Surely, they believe they could still win against Boston, but doing that is always going to be easier said than done, considering the star power and the elite play of the Celtics on both ends of the court.

The Pacers have no quit, though, and that is personified by McConnell himself, who has been able to carve out a significant career in the NBA despite being undrafted in 2015. He is in his ninth season in the league and has been solid in the playoffs thus far. The former Arizona Wildcats guard is averaging 10.9 points and 5.2 assists while shooting 48.6 percent from the field in the postseason.
