The Washington men's basketball program announced the signing of Dominique Diomande, a 6-foot-7 forward, who played for ADA Blois in the France-ProA U21 League last year.
Diomande, considered a top 50 NBA Draft prospect by DraftExpress.com, averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.8 steals per game for Blois over 27 games in 2023-24.
"We are very excited to welcome Dom into our Husky basketball family and the University of Washington,” UW head coach Danny Sprinkle said in a statement. "He has been working very hard to fulfill the international and academic requirements for admission.”
According to a UW spokesperson Diomande's eligibility is still pending, though the staff hopes to have him on campus after the start of the New Year.
The 19-year-old could also be viewed as a key piece for the 2025-26 men's basketball season when the scholarship limit increases from 13 to 15, with Sprinkle set to add a top 15 recruiting class, according to ESPN, that includes 6-foot-10 forward Niko Bundalo (No. 28 overall) and 6-foot-1 guard JJ Mandaquit (No. 48 overall), along with four-star guard Courtland Muldrew and junior college center Mady Traore.
Diomande is considered a freshman in terms of eligibility, meaning he has four years to play in Seattle under Sprinkle, pairing the forward with two freshmen guards, Zoom Diallo and Jase Butler, who joined the program back in May.
Originally from the Ivory Coast, Diomande has competed internationally for the African Nation.
In five games at the 2021 FIBA U16 African Championships, Diomande averaged 21.2 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
Washington returns to the court on Monday to face Seattle University at 7 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
