Veteran NBA guard becomes a source of news

Adrian Wojnarowski. Shams Charania. And now Patrick Beverley.

Beverley was part of his own deadline move this year, as the 76ers sent the veteran guard to the Milwaukee Bucks and he broke the news himself.

That didn’t stop him from breaking news of other players moving teams. Namely Marcus Morris Sr., who was traded from Indiana to San Antonio in a deal for Doug McDermott last week.

San Antonio hadn’t yet waived Morris, who was traded to Philadelphia as part of the James Harden trade, then moved to Indiana when they sent Buddy Hield to the Sixers.

But the Pacers already waived deadline acquisitions Cory Joseph and Furkan Korkmaz. It’s only a matter of time before Morris goes — the Spurs are only mildly interested in winning games.

It’s interesting to hear players subverting traditional media by producing their own podcasts. But a player moving in to become a transactions insider while still active is a new level.

Woj and Shams might have plenty of sources in NBA front offices and sports agencies, but an active player can still scoop them.

This could be the next engine that fuels NBA transactions hype. Who is better suited to deliver accurate NBA gossip than a man still working in NBA locker rooms?

Especially when Beverley has played for six teams in the last three years  — that’s a lot of potential sources on those rosters.
