Victor Wembanayama has been raising his stock this season. Putting the entire NBA on notice, the San Antonio Spurs star is dropping some stellar performances. Now that he is chasing an MVP run this year, the Spurs star recently had the crowd hyping him up. And he loved the moment right to its core.
The San Antonio Spurs took on the Phoenix Suns in their recent game. With both teams putting on quite a show, the game went down to the last second. Thankfully, keeping their nerves intact, the Spurs prevailed 101-100. Once again, Wembanyama dominated with 34 points on the night to steer his team to victory.
Speaking to the media following a fantastic win, Wemby was interrupted by the fans in the arena. With everyone chanting ‘MVP’ in unison, the 2-time NBA All-Star seemed pretty much fired up. Reacting to the chants, the Spurs star replied, “YEAHHHHHHHHHHH.”
Such a reaction was pretty much justified. With the final seconds ticking, the Spurs were trailing Phoenix by a point at the Frost Bank Center. But as the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year caught an inbounds pass, dribbled and drilled a game-winner, the crowd erupted.
With the win, the Spurs have secured their playoff spot. A feat repeated for the first time since 2018-19. And looking to make his season merrier, the Spurs star is eyeing a double personal achievement.
Someone crashing his interview with an MVP chant is not new for the 22-year-old this season. Recently, teammate Keldon Johnson did the same following their win against the Charlotte Hornets. And by the looks of it, the French star is eyeing an incredible way to conclude his season.
Aiming for the MVP as well as the Defensive Player of the Year award, Wembanyama stated, “Right now, in my mind, is taking great care of my body cause I also want to win the MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year. So I’m trying to press the gas from now until the end of the season. Really take care of my treatment, take care of my sleep, take care of my routine, and show up for my team.”
