Jamarion Sharp Brings More Than Just Height

Sharp's height will generate immediate attention, but the 24-year-old has also earned his NBA opportunity with his production. After going undrafted in 2024, Sharp joined the Texas Legends and developed into one of the G League's premier rim protectors.

He was named the 2025-26 NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 7.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and a league-best 3.8 blocks per game. He also shot 73.5% from the field.

Sharp continued making his case during NBA Summer League action, averaging 7.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks over five appearances. His best performance included 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks against the Houston Rockets.

Those numbers helped him land an opportunity with the Clippers.

Clippers Could Have an Answer for Victor Wembanyama

The addition becomes even more intriguing considering Los Angeles' recent problems containing Wembanyama. The Spurs star has averaged 20.5 points, 10 rebounds and 3.6 blocks through eight career games against the Clippers. He recorded a double-double in all three meetings last season, with San Antonio winning each matchup.

Nobody is expecting Sharp to suddenly neutralize one of the NBA's most uniquely talented players, but his enormous frame and shot-blocking ability give Los Angeles another potentially useful defensive option.

First, Sharp will need to establish himself at the NBA level while splitting time on his two-way deal.

Still, the possibility of a Sharp-Wembanyama matchup is difficult to ignore.

Basketball fans have become used to seeing Wembanyama as the tallest player on virtually every court he enters.

Against Sharp, that won't be the case.

For once, Wembanyama might actually have to look up.
