Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are back in action on Monday night. They are up against the Philadelphia 76ers in a home game at Frost Bank Center.
The Spurs are looking to bounce back following Saturday’s 136-134 overtime loss to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. San Antonio dropped to 59-19 after that defeat, and they entered Monday’s matchup 3.0 games behind the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Spurs got a proper scare on the Wembanyama front in the first half against the Sixers. This is after the 7-foot-4 big man was forced to leave the game in the second quarter due to an arm injury.
Wembanyama hit the floor after seemingly taking an elbow from an opponent in the first half. He looked to be in pain and was holding onto his right arm as he went down.
The good news, however, is that the two-time All-Star was able to get up on his own. Wembanyama checked out of the game and headed to the locker room to have himself checked by the medical team.
It did not take long before Wembanyama returned to the Spurs bench. It appears that his quick trip to the locker room was merely precautionary. The 22-year-old checked back into the game late in the second quarter.
The Spurs have not provided the full details of Wembanyama’s injury scare. However, more information should be available post-game. At this point, Spurs fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief after Wembanyama dodged any serious injury.
San Antonio entered halftime with a 62-55 lead. Wembanyama is already up to 17 points, five rebounds and three blocks in 16 minutes of action.
UPDATE: The Spurs later ruled Wembanyama out for the remainder of the game due to a left rib contusion.
