The 2023 NBA Draft class continues to make history on a nightly basis, especially with the unlikely inclusion of Oklahoma City's Chet Holmgren.
Tonight, there's several top matchups between rookies. Here what's on the docket for Friday, Jan. 26:
Prior to the actual 2023 NBA Draft — which saw Scoot Henderson slide to No. 3 overall — much was made of the matchup between the dynamo point guard and top pick Victor Wembanyama.
Prior to the draft, there was one exhilarating matchup between the two with Mets 92 and the G League Ignite, and another short-lived matchup that saw Wembanyama take over again.
Tonight, they’ll face off yet again at 8:30 p.m.
The other top-four picks, Brandon Miller and Amen Thompson, respectively, also matchup tonight.
They’ve gotten off to drastically different starts, with Miller really finding his groove of late and Thompson finding sporadic time, mostly from the Rockets’ bench.
Regardless, both have immense potential, which should be on full display at 6 p.m. tonight.
Chet Holmgren and Jordan Hawkins, despite having drastically different roles and outputs, do have one connection in that they’ve both been immediate help to their respective teams.
Holmgren, a 7-foot-1 phenom, is coming off a matchup versus Wembanyama. Hawkins has seen decent production of late, but scored just six points in his last outing.
While both are talented, tonight is sure to be more about Pelicans-Thunder than anything.
