Victor Wembanyama Wows with 38 Points as Spurs Take Down Suns
USA TODAY Sports

Victor Wembanyama was one of the most highly-lauded NBA Draft selections of all time. And on Thursday night, he was able to prove why against Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns.

Known for lanky frame and two-way ability, Wembanyama was able to showcase his offensive firepower Thursday, pouring on 38 points while shooting 15-for-26 overall and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Even more, he was able to tack on 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in the process while finishing with a team-high +21 plus-minutes.

Offensively, Wembanyama got everything he wanted and more. His teammates found him cutting for slams. He yanked pull-up jumpers with ease and he created off the bounce often.

Despite all the gaudy numbers, it was Wembanyama's play down the stretch that was perhaps the most impressive. Phoenix erased what was at one point a 27-point lead, but Wembanyama's productive reentry into the game effectively ended their run.

Wembanyama was able to help take down the Suns for the second consecutive game, coming away with a 132-121 win. All despite 28 and 31-point performances from Durant and Booker, respectively.

Suffice to say, Wembanyama put together his best game of the season, and one of the best rookie performances we’ve seen in a long, long while.

On the season, Wembanyama is now averaging 20.6 points per game through five contests. All while maintaining his status as a premier shot-blocker and rim protector at 7-foot-4.
