Victor Wembanyama's teammate drawing top-10 consideration in NBA Draft

French phenom Victor Wembanyama has been the 2023 NBA Draft's consensus top pick for a few years, but his Metropolitans 92 club has another prospect poised for a top-10 selection.

During an appearance on Monday's "SportsCenter," ESPN's Jonathan Givony named Wembanyama's teammate, Bilal Coulibaly, as a player who could be the steal of the draft.

Coulibaly has seen his stock soar late in the pre-draft process, with teams enamored by his physical traits, which Givony likens to Brooklyn's Mikal Bridges.

The 18-year-old wing stands 6-foot-8 and boasts a stunning 7-foot-2 wingspan that will allow him to guard multiple positions at the next level. Offensively, however, Coulibaly is still a work in progress.

Although he averaged 11.3 points while shooting a respectable 53% from the field in the regular season, he was inconsistent during the playoffs as he shot 23.8% from three-point range.

Givony mentioned that Coulibaly has the potential to land in the top 10 on draft night, and further reports suggest that the latest he'll be selected is No. 14.

On a recent live stream, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman revealed that Coulibaly received a promise from an unnamed lottery team to be their selection. In his latest mock draft, Wasserman has Coulibaly heading to the Raptors at No. 13; perhaps they are the team in question.

While Coulibaly's intangibles and skill set make him a fit on most rosters, the Utah Jazz reportedly have their eyes on the polarizing talent, per NBA insider Marc Stein. Utah owns three selections in the first round (Nos. 9, 16 and 28), and the extra draft capital gives CEO Danny Ainge flexibility to make various innovative decisions.

Stein noted that the Jazz might have to package the 16th and 28th picks to move up in the draft and acquire Baylor's Keyonte George. If Ainge knows he can select George, he may become more open to gambling on Coulibaly's potential at No. 9. Ainge has established himself as a phenomenal talent evaluator and has personally scouted Coulibaly in France during this draft cycle.

Playing alongside Wembanyama has propelled Coulibaly into the spotlight, and it's possible that he wouldn't even be considered a potential draft pick without the opportunity. Nevertheless, now Coulibaly must prove his ability and not his ties to the future first overall selection is the reason he belongs in the NBA.

The 2023 NBA Draft, hosted in Brooklyn, is scheduled for June 22.
