The Golden State Warriors are looking to get back on track Sunday against the Denver Nuggets as the team enters the matchup on a two‑game losing streak. However, the path has only become more difficult thanks to the wave of unfortunate injury luck that has hit the roster.
Point guard Stephen Curry is dealing with a left knee injury that is expected to sideline him for at least the next week, while trade‑deadline acquisition Kristaps Porzingis is battling an illness and will also miss Sunday’s game.
As a result, several veterans will have to step up to keep Golden State competitive against a talented Denver squad, including forward Draymond Green.
It initially appeared that Green would be in the starting lineup once again, especially with the Warriors so shorthanded.
He was announced as a starter ahead of pregame introductions, but just moments before tip‑off he was removed from the lineup, immediately raising concern.
As the game began, the Warriors announced an update. According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, Green was ruled out due to a lower back issue.
It is unclear when the setback occurred, but it is likely he was unable to get through pregame warmups without discomfort, leading to the late scratch.

Green is now in his 14th NBA season, all with Golden State, even though there was speculation at the trade deadline that he could be moved. He has built an extensive list of accomplishments and remains a central figure in the Warriors’ dynasty.
He is a four‑time All‑Star, four‑time NBA champion, two‑time All‑NBA selection and a former Defensive Player of the Year. This season, the 35‑year‑old veteran is averaging 8.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 40.9% from the field and 32.0 percent from beyond the arc across 47 games.
For a Warriors team already stretched thin, losing Green at the last minute only adds to the mounting challenges. His leadership, defensive presence and playmaking are essential, especially with Curry and Porzingis unavailable.
As Golden State tries to stabilize its season, the severity of Green’s back issue will determine how steep the climb becomes in the days ahead.
