Jonathan Kuminga has suddenly become relevant again for the Golden State Warriors. The 6-foot-7 forward fell out of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation in December and has since requested a trade. Kuminga, however, returned to the lineup after Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Kuminga made waves in his first two games. He scored 20 points in 21 minutes on Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors. On Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks, the 23-year-old logged 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting before being forced to exit the game.

Kuminga lasted just nine minutes against Dallas. He left the game in the first half due to a knee injury and was unable to return.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday in a road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are in dire need of a win after losing back-to-back games. Golden State enters that matchup with a 25-21 record. As of writing, Steph Curry and Co. are eighth in the Western Conference.

The bad news for the Warriors is that Kuminga will not play against Minnesota. The Warriors released their injury report for the game, and Kuminga has officially been listed as out due to left knee soreness.

This does not come as a surprise, considering how Kuminga was unable to return to Thursday’s game after tweaking his knee. The Warriors are also being extra cautious about Kuminga’s health as they continue to find an amenable trade deal for the former NBA G League star. According to reports, Kuminga’s desire to leave Golden State remains unchanged despite his recent return to the rotation.

The Warriors have not revealed the full details of Kuminga’s injury, although it does not sound like it’s a serious concern. His next chance to play would be Monday in a rematch against Minnesota.

With Kuminga out, more minutes will be available for the likes of Moses Moodey and De’Anthony Melton.
