The Golden State Warriors are set to open their season on Monday, Oct. 21, in a prime-time showdown against the Los Angeles Lakers at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.

The game will mark star point guard Stephen Curry’s 17th season in the NBA, all with the Warriors, after being selected No. 7 overall in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft.

On Friday, just days before the season opener, the Warriors made a prestigious announcement regarding Curry: he will join an iconic and exclusive group when he steps on the court on Monday.

Curry will become the 10th player in NBA history to play 17 or more seasons with a single franchise. He’ll join legends such as Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, John Stockton, Reggie Miller, Tony Parker, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Udonis Haslem.

"As Stephen heads into his 17th season with the Dubs, he will become the 10th player in NBA history to join this prestigious list," the Warriors posted.

Dirk Nowitzki holds the record for the longest tenure with a single team, playing 21 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks before retiring. Trailing him are Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan, who each spent 20 seasons with their respective franchises.

Curry still has two years remaining on his current Warriors contract, which would keep him in the league through age 39, and he hasn’t missed a beat in terms of production.

Last season, he appeared in 70 games, averaging 24.4 points, 6.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 44.8% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range.
