Dallas Mavericks superstar Anthony Davis has been one of the big names that has been linked to the Golden State Warriors in a potential blockbuster trade. The links resurfaced on Tuesday after the Warriors received some unfortunate news on Jimmy Butler.
Butler was helped to the locker room during Monday’s win against the Miami Heat. The Warriors officially announced on Tuesday that Butler had been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee. It’s a season-ending injury for the 36-year-old forward.
Davis is also on the shelf for the Mavs. The 10-time All-Star sustained ligament damage in his left hand. The injury won’t require surgery, but Davis isn’t expected to return until at least early March.
The Warriors have been rumored to be buyers as the February trade deadline approaches. Davis was identified as a trade target for Golden State, along with a few other teams across the league. His latest injury, however, significantly impacted any and all trade rumors surrounding the 6-foot-10 big man.
On Tuesday, NBC Sports’ Grant Liffmann provided an update on the Warriors’ links to Davis. According to Liffmann’s report, Golden State has not made a move on the Mavs superstar amid Butler’s injury.
“I've been told that the Warriors are not in any active trade discussions with the Dallas Mavericks regarding Anthony Davis, for instance,” Liffmann said.
"The Warriors are not in any active trade discussions with the Dallas Mavericks regarding Anthony Davis for instance... they have no intention of doing the opposite where they tank and try to get a better pick this year."

The report also indicated that the Warriors have no intention of tanking to get a better pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. It is clear, however, that Davis does not figure significantly in their current plans — at least according to this latest update.
The Warriors could still make a move before the trade deadline, especially with this season-ending development involving Butler. Jonathan Kuminga, who has already requested a trade, could find his way back into the rotation as well.
