The Golden State Warriors secured a Game 1 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves but may have suffered a significant blow, losing superstar guard Stephen Curry to injury.

The Warriors were able to hang on for the gritty 99-88 victory behind 24 points from Buddy Hield. Jimmy Butler also chipped in a near-triple-double effort, collecting 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

Curry exited in the second quarter after pulling up and grabbing at his leg following a made basket with just under eight minutes to play. He subbed out immediately and went straight to the locker room. The Warriors quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game. He finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Curry has rarely missed time in the postseason and head coach Steve Kerr provided a grim postgame update on his star guard’s status.

"He’s obviously crushed," Kerr said, adding Curry will get an MRI on Wednesday. "We’re definitely game planning for him to not be available Thursday. We don’t know yet (for sure)."

The Warriors, long recognized for their high-powered offense, have leaned on stifling defense to win their last two games. Golden State limited the Rockets to just 89 points in their Game 7 first-round win, then clamped down on Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves in Tuesday’s series opener.

Edwards led the Timberwolves with 23 points but did not hit a jumpshot until late in the fourth quarter.

Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday in Minnesota.
