According to NBA insider Marc J. Spears of ESPN, the Golden State Warriors expected Al Horford to sign with them last week.
Horford is an unrestricted free agent. He will not re-sign with the Boston Celtics.
Horford has been linked to the Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.
The veteran could also retire.
Marc Spears on Al Horford:
“Golden State expected him to sign last week, he didn’t. Lakers, Milwaukee, Atlanta I believe are also interested…he’s still considering retiring, he’s not in any hurry. You know who I think’s gonna be in this decision: His 10-year son” pic.twitter.com/d87NsP3yaQ

Horford played in 60 games for the Celtics last season. The five-time All-Star and 2024 NBA champion averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 42.3% overall, 36.3% from beyond the arc and 89.5% from the foul line.
The 39-year-old Horford has played for the Hawks, Celtics (twice), Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder. He has career averages of 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
Horford entered the NBA in 2007 with the Hawks. He was the third overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Florida.
The Warriors haven’t made any moves in free agency this offseason. They are dealing with Jonathan Kuminga‘s restricted free agency. As a restricted free agent, Kuminga can either re-sign with the Warriors or sign an offer sheet with a rival team.
If Kuminga signs an offer sheet with another team, the Warriors can either match the offer sheet or let the swingman leave and execute a sign-and-trade deal.
Golden State lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. The franchise won the 2022 title against Horford and the Celtics in six games.
