The Golden State Warriors want to upgrade their roster this summer, and it appears they're willing to part with pieces of their future to do so.
In a column published Monday, The Athletic's John Hollinger reported there is a "widespread expectation that the Warriors will use No. 7 and [James] Wiseman, in particular, to seek more immediate upgrades to the roster."
Warriors general manager Bob Myers said last week the team is "not trying to develop players at the risk of losing," which emphasizes the team's desire to win another title with its core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
In terms of an "immediate upgrade," Hollinger notes one name to watch is Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam.
The Warriors drafted Wiseman with the second overall pick last November, believing he could become the next face of the franchise. After Curry's incredible season, it was made clear that Golden State still can compete for another title if all players are healthy.
The Warriors don't want to trade Wiseman, but if he is the price to acquire a player needed to vault them back into title contention, they will almost certainly pull the trigger.
Siakam is the most reasonable target for the Warriors, as his trade value likely took a hit after he underwent shoulder surgery earlier this month that will force him to miss the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
The 27-year-old is also a solid upgrade over Wiseman. He averaged 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 29.7% from deep.
