Warriors’ Gary Payton II To Miss Several Weeks With Serious Injury
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II will miss several weeks due to a left hamstring strain, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Payton II suffered the injury on January 2 against the Orlando Magic.

Payton II has only played in 16 games this season. He missed 13 games in a row with a calf injury and will now be out again with a hamstring strain. You have to feel bad for the NBA champion since his body continues to betray him.

Payton II is averaging 5.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 45.6% from the field, 28.1% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line. He’s making $8.3 million.

“He’s such a big part of our team,” Warriors point guard Chris Paul said about Payton II. “People may not realize it, but his energy is consistent every day — every practice, every game. Him coming back has been huge for us. So I hope what it is isn’t going to take a long time. I think for him, it’s going to be about getting as healthy as possible.”

Payton II helped the Warriors win the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics. He has career averages of 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers.

The Warriors are 16-17 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.
