Warriors Get Huge Jonathan Kuminga Free Agency Update on Monday

The NBA offseason has now reached August and while many of the top names have already signed new contracts in free agency, one key storyline has continued to dominate the summer thus far.

That would be the ongoing saga between the Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga as the franchise continues to await a decision by their young forward.

Of course, Kuminga fell out of Steve Kerr’s rotation last season which had many people around the league speculating that he would be on the move this offseason likely via a sign-and-trade.

Despite this, there has not been a ton of interest being shown in Kuminga, though two teams have emerged as potential landing spots for him if they are able to meet Golden State’s high asking price.

Those two teams are the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns and it has been reported that both teams have offered Kuminga a contract, though the Warriors have turned down their trade offers for him.

On Monday, there was a major report released by The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami that revealed a massive development in the ongoing Kuminga saga.

According to Kawakami, the Warriors will not trade Kuminga this summer as they plan to have him on their roster next season.

Kawakami also added that Warriors owner Joe Lacob has remained a fan of Kuminga and will only move him this offseason for real value.

This is a massive report as it appears likely that Kuminga will stay in Golden State next season unless a team is willing to meet, or possibly exceed, the Warriors’ asking price for him in trade talks.

While Kuminga may be staying with the Warriors next season, it would not be a surprise if Golden State searches for a trade for him ahead of next season’s trade deadline, especially if he is still out of the rotation.

Either way, it now seems likely that the young forward will remain in Golden State next season unless a team is willing to offer a massive trade package for him this summer.
