Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant really wanted his team to face the Warriors on Christmas. Morant exchanged tweets with Warriors forward Draymond Green on June 19 and both hoped their teams would play on Christmas Day. The league’s Christmas Day slate traditionally includes an NBA Finals rematch on the defending champions’ home court but the Grizzlies deserve that spotlight as well.
NBA Insider Marc Stein tweeted on Saturday that the Grizzlies will visit the Warriors on Christmas in a battle of two of the most entertaining teams in the league. Morant reacted on Twitter:
we got what we wanted dray. @Money23Green https://t.co/fsJPffUBii pic.twitter.com/ti8PAdtMyC

The NBA made the right call! The league would have gotten massive backlash had they opted to put the Warriors against a different opponent on Christmas.
Grizzlies-Warriors will definitely be among the most exciting games next season. All the meetings will have massive playoff implications and the story writes itself. The Grizzlies want payback after las year’s playoffs while the Warriors want to make a statement.
Hopefully the Grizzlies and Warriors can stay healthy on Christmas. Morant’s injury was a major factor during their second round series last season and it won’t be the same if either team is not at full strength.
TV ratings prove that Stephen Curry is the NBA’s top draw and the Grizzlies will have an opportunity to show that their games are must-watch as well.
