Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga end standoff with new two-year deal

The Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga have finally reached an agreement, putting an end to a months-long contract standoff just as camp gets underway.

Kuminga is re-signing with Golden State on a two-year, $48.5 million contract, agent Aaron Turner told ESPN. The deal includes a team option, allowing the Warriors to rip up and renegotiate the contract next summer if they choose.

Negotiations between Turner and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. stretched from July into late September, with Golden State ultimately bumping its offer by about $8 million within the two-year structure and guaranteeing Kuminga roughly $15 million more than he would’ve made on his qualifying offer for this season.

Kuminga passed on a three-year, $75 million offer to maintain more control over his short-term future. The Warriors never budged on keeping the team option in place — and both sides understand that trade talks could pick up once Kuminga becomes eligible in January.
