Warriors' Poole on contract: 'I'll let my reps handle that'

Jordan Poole is entering the final year of his rookie contract before restricted free agency.

Many expected him and the Golden State Warriors to come to terms on a new deal this summer, but thus far it hasn’t happened.

This week during the team’s media day Poole was asked about the situation.

The 23-year-old kept it pretty real on the topic.

“We did what we needed to do last year, got a championship for the team,” he said.

“Obviously it’s something that’s out there, but I’ll let my reps handle that. I have the most faith and confidence we’ll work something out, but I’m just here to play basketball. I’m excited to be back with the team.”

When pressed on whether he is frustrated to be going into the season with this hanging over his head, Poole maintained his diplomatic approach.

“I mean, however we go into the season is how we go in,” he said.

“I’m gonna play my game and continue to be me, and put everything forward to help us win games whatever the situation or circumstance is.”

Warriors ownership has been cutting costs all summer, but it is still difficult to see a scenario where they let Poole walk for nothing. He is too talented a player with too much innate swag.

If Golden State does decide, for whatever reason, to cut ties with Poole – there is one team out there salivating at the prospect of acquiring him.

It probably won’t come to that, though. Poole and the Warriors will likely come to terms eventually.

Sooner or later, the front office will lock him down.

When, specifically? Time will tell.
