In light of the Los Angeles Lakers trading for Luka Doncic, the Golden State Warriors are under significant pressure to acquire another star player to complement Stephen Curry. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Warriors are seeking a trade, and he specifically mentioned a Philadelphia 76ers star.
Charania appeared on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show on Monday.
The NBA insider mentioned the 76ers' Paul George during his segment. According to Charania, he is a legitimate player of interest for the Warriors.
"The Warriors are legitimately calling about every All-Star player," Charania said. "You name the All-Star player, the Warriors have probably called them. Paul George, they have called him."
Golden State's interest in George isn't shocking, as they attempted to acquire George during the 2024 free agency period. However, despite the 76ers' underwhelming 2024-25 season, the Warriors are "deadset in trying to find another star, superstar player to pair with Stephen Curry," according to Charania.
Despite the Warriors' mediocre record24-24 record, giving them the 11th seed in the Western Conference, they believe they can compete in the playoffs if they trade for a star player.
Regardless of the reality of such an idea, with Curry, 36, the Warriors don't have much time to contend for their fifth NBA championship in 10 years.
Charania's reporting of the Warriors' desperation conveys the drastic mindset they preached since the beginning of the season. Golden State went from not wanting to mortgage their future to calling every team in the league in hopes of trading for another star player.
