Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors have begun to find their rhythm, securing their third straight win with a 126-116 victory over Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day. And on Sunday, the Warriors looked to keep that momentum going as they opened a three-game road trip against the Toronto Raptors.
Still, despite having the trio of Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, many would say the Warriors have underperformed through the first 31 games of the 2025-26 NBA season, sitting at 16-15. A major reason may be the lack of an effective starting center, with rumors swirling that Golden State is looking to address that need by trading for Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis.
While the Warriors have not acquired Davis just yet, they did make a quiet move to add potential depth at center. On Saturday, Golden State’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, announced it had acquired center Charles Bassey from the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, in exchange for forward Jackson Rowe. Multiple future G League draft picks were swapped as well.
Bassey was selected in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the 76ers and has spent time with the San Antonio Spurs and, most recently, the Memphis Grizzlies. In 115 career NBA games, including two this season with Memphis, the former Western Kentucky Hilltoppers center has averaged 4.3 points on 62.5% shooting, along with 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game.
The Santa Cruz Warriors announced the trade with a news release on X.
"The Santa Cruz Warriors, the NBA G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, have acquired center Charles Bassey and a second-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft from the Delaware Blue Coats, it was announced today. In exchange, the Warriors have traded the returning player rights to forward Jackson Rowe, a first-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft, and a first-round pick in the 2027 NBA G League Draft to the Blue Coats."
