Warriors re-signed Draymond Green for one simple reason

They say winning cures all, but in Green's case, it also pays. According to insider Shams Charania, Green's new deal is worth $100 million and includes a player option for the fourth and final year. 

The 33-year-old may be getting long in the tooth entering his 12th NBA season, but Green's numbers tell a different story. In 2022-2023, Green recorded 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game, all around his career averages (8.7, 7.0, 5.6). Meanwhile, Green is saving the Warriors money, at least in the short term. Green declined a $27.6 million player option for 2023-24 and will make $22.3 million in the first year of his four-year deal, saving the Warriors $43 million in tax savings, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Green returning to the Warriors was perhaps the worst-kept secret ahead of the start of free agency at 6 p.m. est. However, with a contract agreed to, Green has likely secured his NBA deal, meaning he'll probably be a Warrior for life, as it should be. 

Through 11 seasons, Green has not only helped Golden State create a dynasty, but he's also a multiple-time All-Star (4), earned four first-team All-Defensive team nods and was the league's Defensive Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season. Green will now have four more years alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to make more memories in the Bay.
