Warriors Reportedly Racing to Finalize Massive Steve Kerr Decision Before Draft Lottery

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green’s respective contracts will end in 2027. However, Steve Kerr’s deal just ended, leaving the Golden State Warriors without a head coach. But will he be back? It sure looks like that scenario could happen.

While a decorated NCAA coach has been linked to the Warriors, it’s truly hard to envision both Curry and Green being coached by somebody else other than Kerr. When we talk about the Dubs, we quickly visualize the trio – and to an extent, Klay Thompson. But will he be back for one more year, maybe more? According to a new report, a new deal is likely for the veteran tactician.

“The Warriors wanted this to be done before the draft lottery… The intentions right now and the feeling is that Steve Kerr will be back,” per Brett Siegel.

One last run? Perhaps that’s the intention. This team is too proud to go out without a bang, even though their dynasty might be at the end of the line. And sure enough, the Warriors do not want to head into the NBA draft lottery without a coach. That’s risky business.

Steve Kerr is Being Pursued Heavily by ESPN

Before accepting the Warriors’ offer to become their head coach in 2014, Kerr was a beloved member of ESPN’s broadcasting team. He was very good at his job, too. And that’s why it’s unsurprising that the sports media giant wants Steve Kerr to consider their offer now that he’s a free agent.

“League sources tell The Stein Line that ESPN’s top executives have been lobbying [Steve] Kerr aggressively to try to convince him to return to the world of NBA broadcasting, but the Warriors are expected to meet with Kerr as early as Monday to resume discussions about his status,” per a new report.

“I’m told Golden State has been operating internally in recent days as though it is more likely than not that a common ground can be found with the 60-year-old on a new deal that would keep him in place coaching Stephen Curry,” the report continued.

Whichever path Kerr chooses, he’s a winner. Five-time champ as a player. Four-time champ as a head coach. A beloved and respected play-by-play broadcaster. He’s done it all, folks.
