Warriors Reportedly Ready For Major Roster Shakeup
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest surprises in the NBA thus far in the 2023-24 regular season has been the performance of the Golden State Warriors. Things are getting worse by the day for Golden State, who are now 17-20 after getting blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.

Now in 12th place in the Western Conference and 1.5 games behind the Houston Rockets for the last spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament, something will have to give sooner than later. Working through players being in and out of the lineup hasn’t been easy for head coach Steve Kerr and some of the players are beginning to question if he is the right person for the job.

That has led to some ugly performances on the court as teams are gearing up all of their defensive game plans to stop Stephen Curry, daring other players on the team to beat them. To this point, no one has stepped up consistently enough to help the Warriors win games and Curry has been playing well below the level we are accustomed to seeing him perform at.

In need of some sort of shake-up, expect the Warriors to be open for business ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, everyone on the roster is available except Curry.

“The mindset in Golden State right now is everyone but Steph Curry is on the table,” Charania said on Run It Back on FanDuel TV.

Golden State has come to a crossroads and it is time for them to choose which path they want to go down. Their dual-timeline strategy of attempting to develop young players while remaining contenders has not worked out as planned, leading them to this point.

With Curry not being made available, it makes it seem like they are going to go for it at least once more with with him and Kerr leading the way. How much will they be able to add to the roster, however, is another question.

Youngsters Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody don’t have anywhere near the same value they once did on the trade market. Veterans Klay Thompson and Andre Wiggins have both seen their production slip. It is hard to imagine many, if any teams having interest in Draymond Green, who is working his way back from a second suspension this season.

It will certainly be something to keep an eye on as the Warriors have been linked to some difference-making players. Something will happen between now and the NBA Deadline, but how big of a move they will make is anyone’s guess.
