Warriors rookie reveals why he hated Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors added an NBA-ready forward to help Stephen Curry win his fifth championship.

Ironically, Yaxel Lendeborg wasn't necessarily much of a Curry fan before entering the league.

Shortly after hearing his name called with the No. 11 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, "The Dominican LeBron" made a hilarious admission about his new teammate.

Talking to the media, he revealed he used to hate Steph because he was a Kyrie Irving fan.

Yaxel Lendeborg wasn't a Steph Curry fan

"I'm a big Kyrie [Irving] guy," Lendeborg said (h/t Anthony Slater). "So I used to hate Steph Curry."

Of course, that's all water under the bridge now. He's more than eager to get to work with the greatest shooter of all time, regardless of his previous allegiances.

"Now that I'm actually going to be able to be on the same team with him, play and actually learn so much from him, it means a lot," Lendeborg said. "He's a very great guy, genuine person. It's going to be an honor to be able to watch what he does in person."

NBA players are human beings first and foremost, and they have their own preferences and opinions, just like everybody else.

Also, if someone were to tell Lendeborg that he'd make it to the NBA just five years ago, he probably wouldn't have believed it.

His journey to the league began at junior college, and he spent a total of six years in college before finally making his way to the pros.

He's a week older than Jonathan Kuminga, whom the Warriors traded midway through last season, but that didn't deter general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. from giving him the nod.

While Lendeborg may not have as high a ceiling as other younger guys, he can play winning basketball and give the Warriors big minutes right out of the gate, and that might be valuable for what they currently need.
