Warriors star appointed to presidential council

Steph Curry's accolades include four titles, two MVPs and now one presidential council.

Curry and his wife, Ayesha, have a foundation called "Eat. Learn. Play." It's devoted to fighting childhood hunger, funding quality education and providing places for children to play. That checks all three of the boxes for the council, and the education aspect makes the Currys perhaps overqualified.

Curry is the only current NBA player in this group of nominees, though WNBA star Elena Delle Donne co-chairs the council alongside chef Jose Andres. The council also includes former WNBA star Tamika Catchings, Olympians Chloe Kim and Elana Meyers Taylor, and Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng.

The council was started in 1956 under President Dwight Eisenhower and is responsible for the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. Former co-chairs have included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Senate candidate Herschel Walker, baseball Hall of Famer Stan Musial, Mariano Rivera, Drew Brees and Lynn Swann.

The Warriors star has a long history of promoting physical activities. Like skating:

And gymnastics:

And dancing:

And he's long been in favor of older people taking up tumbling:

Curry discussed his role in politics in an interview with Rolling Stone last year, saying, "I have certain beliefs that not everybody vibes with. As long as there's equality, in the sense of you having all your protections and your rights as a citizen, that should be the very low bar for everybody to adhere to."

While a presidential council is certainly political in nature, promoting nutrition and physical fitness is an issue without a lot of opposition. It's not a particularly partisan position.

Besides, Curry's real ambition is to go to the White House as an NBA champion, not a political candidate.
