Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green weighed in this week on the ongoing debate over who should win the NBA MVP award this year.

A heated back-and-forth has taken place in the media over recently regarding whether Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic is worthy of winning a third straight MVP. Some think he is, while others believe he hasn’t done enough.

This week, Green offered his two cents on who he thinks should win the MVP.

“Joel Embiid has been on a tear,” Green said. “… He’s willing his team to wins. I think that has to account for something… I think Joel has started to create a little separation [from Jokic].”

As far as Green is concerned, that nudges him ahead in the MVP race.

“I think right now, when the next MVP ladder comes out — Joel gotta take that No. 1 spot,” he concluded.

From a statistical standpoint, it’s tough to argue with Green’s take. Embiid is averaging 33.4 points per game on nearly 54 percent shooting from the field.

Jokic, meanwhile, is averaging 24.7 points per game on nearly 63 percent shooting from the field.

Philly (46-22) has the third-best record in the East, while Denver (46-23) has the best record in the West. A mere one game separates them in terms of wins and losses.

Will Embiid end up winning the MVP this year, proving Green correct?
