Warriors stars make embarrassing history in blowout loss

Stephen Curry had never played 10 minutes in a game without making a field goal. It happened Thursday night in Memphis, where his teammate also set a record he won't be proud of.

Curry took only seven shots during Thursday's 144-93 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He missed every single one of them, scoring only on a pair of free throws late in the second quarter. The defeat by the Grizzlies was so thorough that Warriors coach Steve Kerr took out Curry and the rest of his starters with 5:01 left.

Curry's final line: Two points, 0-for-6 from three-point range, three rebounds, one assist, two turnovers.

But while that was a bad game for Curry, teammate Draymond Green's night was even worse. ESPN's Tim Bontemps reported that Green's plus/minus was historically poor.

Green missed all four of his shots, putting up zero points, assists or rebounds in 19 minutes, while committing four fouls and four turnovers. His lone positive statistic was a single steal. His plus/minus was -42, which Bontemps reported was the worst for any player who logged less than 20 minutes.

One reason that Green played so few minutes was his foul trouble. He committed his second foul in the final minute of the first quarter — and third foul just 21 seconds into the second. Green also got a delay of game warning for stalling, as he unsuccessfully tried to get the referees to review a foul call.

The poor performance was especially bad after Green complained extensively about "jenky" Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins after the Warriors defeated the Grizzlies in November. Specifically, he called rookie Zach Edey "soft."

Edey put up eight points, eight rebounds and four assists Thursday, along with two blocks. His plus/minus was +24, which is not all that soft.

The rough nights were a testament to the Grizzlies' tough defense, especially rookie Jaylen Wells, who blanketed Curry, and former Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson, Jr.

It's a game that may hurt Curry's pride. As for Green, he'll make his feelings known on his podcast.
