Warriors' Stephen Curry breaks NBA Finals record with six first-quarter three-pointers

Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry broke another three-point record Thursday when he nailed six in the first quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

The hot start for Curry made him the first to make more than five three-pointers in a single quarter of an NBA Finals game. He previously owned a share of the record as Curry made five threes in a quarter in three previous NBA Finals games. Ray Allen and Kenny Smith each did it once.

Curry, 34, became the NBA's three-point king earlier this season when he passed Ray Allen for the most all-time. His teammate, Klay Thompson, owns the record for threes in a quarter during the regular season with nine.

Despite the avalanche of threes from Curry, the Warriors finished the first quarter with only a four-point lead over the Celtics.

Curry already owns the record for three-pointers in an NBA Finals game after he hit nine in 2018 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2. He also entered Thursday with a record 121 career three-pointers in Finals games.
