For years, LeBron James and Steph Curry went back and forth for the ultimate prize in basketball. Steph and the Golden State Warriors got the best of James's Cleveland Cavaliers three of four times, but James spoiled the Warriors' record-breaking 73-9 season.
It's been a decade since the first time they met in the NBA Finals, and while both are still going strong, they're inching closer to the back end of their careers. Fortunately for them, they've both found another passion: Golfing.
Curry has been a well-known diehard golfer for years now, whereas James just got into it this summer. That's why, after initially poking fun at him and his swing, he's now earned Steph's respect, up to the point where he wants to help him.
"He's obsessed with it," Curry said, per Sky Sports. "He's out there a lot more than I actually thought. He'll be right out of the jump. So he gets it, which is great. But yeah, we'll definitely get out and play."
The four-time NBA champion admitted that he's not a certified coach by any means, but he believes that he can work something out with the Los Angeles Lakers' star, now that he's seen how committed he is to mastering his craft and becoming a better golfer:
"I'm an amateur, like, swing coach. I feel like I can always, you know, help somebody else with their swing even though I probably don't know what I'm talking about. But he seems like a very good project to have, for sure," the sharpshooter continued.
Perhaps he can share some pointers when they meet for their season opener. The NBA and NBA Sports announced that the Lakers and Warriors will square off for the nightcap of the season-opening slate on October 21.
The season will start with the Oklahoma City Thunder hosting Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets, with Curry and the Dubs traveling to Southern California to meet the Lakers. Steph and James aren't getting any younger, but they're clearly still the two most prominent figures in the NBA.
The Warriors tried to pair them by making a trade-deadline push for James, but his agent revealed that he didn't want to take his talents to the Bay Area. Now, with James entering the final season of his contract with the Lakers and all the rumors about his future with the organization, the Warriors might want to try their luck again and make another run at him.
They were the most dominant players of their generation and kept the league in a chokehold for half a decade, so making a final run at a championship together might be a fitting end to put their rivalry to bed.
They already showed what they're capable of when they're together in the Olympics, and James could certainly use some golfing lessons in their spare time after practice.
