Jonathan Kuminga missed his fourth straight game for the Golden State Warriors on Friday against the Detroit Pistons. The 23-year-old was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee after sustaining the injury on Jan. 22 against the Dallas Mavericks.

Kuminga recently returned to the Warriors rotation after losing his spot in December. Head coach Steve Kerr brought Kuminga back after Jimmy Butler’s season-ending injury. Kuminga played well after being re-inserted into the lineup, but he injured his knee and has since been sidelined.

Kerr provided an update on Kuminga’s status on Saturday as the 6-foot-7 forward works his way back to action.

Kuminga demanded a trade away from Golden State earlier this month. This was before Butler’s injury and before Kerr brought Kuminga back into the rotation. Nevertheless, Kuminga reportedly remains keen on a move away from the Warriors.

Kerr spoke to the media on Saturday to share a positive development on Kuminga’s recovery. According to Kerr, Kuminga is feeling better. The former NBA G League star’s bone bruise is improving, per Warriors reporter Nick Friedell. In fact, Kerr hinted at the possibility of Kuminga returning to action for Golden State’s next game. They face the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.

Kuminga has made 20 appearances for the Warriors this season. He is averaging 12.1 points on 45.4% shooting, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 23.8 minutes per game.

The bigger news out of the Warriors camp on Saturday centered on Steph Curry. The two-time NBA MVP left Friday’s loss against the Pistons due to a knee injury. The good news is that Curry’s MRI came back clean. He is officially day-to-day with right knee soreness.

The Warriors dropped to 27-23 after losing to Detroit. As of writing, they are eighth in the Western Conference.
