Warriors waive Seth Curry ahead of final roster deadline

The Warriors have trimmed their roster, waiving guards Seth Curry and LJ Cryer, the team announced.

The move was expected in Curry’s case. Golden State remains hard-capped at the second tax apron and isn’t currently in position to carry a 15th man.

Curry had been in camp on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 deal, but the organization reportedly hopes to bring him back once there’s room to maneuver under the cap.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the younger Curry — brother of Stephen Curry — could return to the team by mid-November. Golden State may wait a bit longer to preserve flexibility for the rest of the season.

Cryer, an undrafted rookie out of Houston, turned heads in preseason action, averaging 5.0 points and 1.8 assists in limited minutes.

While he didn’t land a two-way deal, he’s expected to join the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League if he clears waivers.

Should he spend at least 60 days with Santa Cruz, Cryer would receive a bonus of $85,300 under his Exhibit 10 contract.

The Warriors now have 14 players on standard deals and all three two-way spots filled as they head into the regular season.
