The Golden State Warriors have been very quiet so far this offseason, and one possible blockbuster move already seems to have been taken off the table simply due to a lack of interest.

After spurning him in the play-in and playoffs and making it clear that he is not a long-term piece on the roster, the Golden State Warriors are expected to part ways with young forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Entering the offseason, Kuminga was expected to have plenty of value as a sign-and-trade asset, although his lack of playing time has clearly ruined any value he may have had.

Kuminga has been linked to the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls, although the Kings are unwilling to shell out for him, and the Warriors are reportedly not interested in one of the Bulls’ best players.

Warriors don’t want to take back Nikola Vucevic

On paper, Nikola Vucevic is exactly the type of player the Warriors would love to add.

He can space the floor, rebound, score, and is on an expiring deal, although the $21.4 million he is owed next season would limit Golden State’s flexibility.

“There’s the thought that Nikola Vucevic would be a potential outgoing piece and a sign-and-trade that the Warriors have had some interest there,” prefaced insider Jake Fischer. “I don’t think the Warriors have much interest in Nikola Vucevic, I really don’t.”

Vucevic was linked to the Warriors up until last season’s trade deadline, and finished last year averaging a solid 18.5 points and 10.1 rebounds while shooting 40.2% from deep. On paper, a lineup of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Buddy Hield, Draymond Green, and Vucevic should be able to excel, although the Warriors, according to Fischer, are “not so bullish.”

“I am pretty confident that the Warriors would not be super excited about losing Kuminga for an expiring contract, Nikola Vucevic,” he finished.

With Curry, Butler, and Green all under contract for two more seasons, Golden State would certainly prefer a player who can fit into that timeline.

Warriors need to make a move this summer

While Vucevic might not be the perfect fit, the Warriors are yet to add a single player via trade or free agency this summer.

They have been linked to Al Horford, but he is yet to decide between the Warriors, Hawks, or retiring

Currently, Golden State has only nine players on the roster, and their only true center is Quinten Post, who isn’t exactly a centerpiece on a title team.

While there are still several months left in the NBA offseason, the Warriors do not have the luxury of being picky and need to shore up their roster if they want to add a fifth ring to Curry and Green’s fingers.

Vucevic might not be a defensive asset, but he certainly has a place in the lineup, and the Bulls are one of only a few teams still interested in Kuminga.
