Having missed 6 games due to a right knee inflammation, Anthony Edwards must’ve been chomping at the bit to be cleared to return to the paint. However, when that moment arrived, he wasn’t there at tipoff.
The guard did not start the recent game against the Dallas Mavericks, marking the end of a streak of having started 421 consecutive games for the Minnesota Timberwolves. And while many might have asserted a serious issue as the reason behind the miss, Anthony Edwards wasn’t there simply because he had to answer nature’s call.
During a postgame interview after the 124-94 win, Ant was asked about his absence in the first minute of the game. “I was taking a s—. But Mike (Conley) held it down for me,” he explained.

To those unaware, Anthony Edwards checked in one minute after tip-off against Dallas, and played for a restricted 23 minutes, clocking in 17 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.
And while one might have expected this to irk head coach Chris Finch, his response to the delay just added a layer of humor to the situation.
“Nature calls, I guess,” Chris Finch said.
Finch gave Edwards his flowers on his comeback game as well.
“Ant was awesome. His defense was outstanding. Just let the game come to him, stayed aggressive, made quicker decisions. I thought he was really good. And things looked kind of easy for him, as a result,” Finch said.
Having said that, Anthony Edwards also addressed what it felt like to be back on the paint after being sidelined by a case of right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome.
The humor aside, Anthony Edwards opened up about being sidelined during the postgame conversation.
“I was miserable,” Edwards said, speaking of his two weeks off the court. “I was a little stressed out. I told them I was insecure when I came back.”
However, he also revealed that the offset helped him in its own way.
“Just watching the game from a distance, you start to see what the team is missing, what’s wrong internally, the problems and (stuff),” Anthony Edwards said. “I think I needed that, especially going into the playoffs to see what we needed. It was big for me.”
Addressing how he felt the moment he got back on the paint, Ant said, “Getting back out there for the first time in a little while…. like a kid in a candy store.”
That being said, there’s still no clarity as to whether Anthony Edwards will be seen in all the upcoming games.
“I’ve not been told that he can’t (play on consecutive nights),” Chris Finch said. “So we’ll see how he reacts to tonight’s minutes, that’s the most important thing.”
